Solar eclipse - the Moon hides the Sun

'Why does the Sun disappear? Demonstrate what happens when the Moon hides the Sun'


This activity can be carried out when investigating our Solar system. It compares the relative sizes and positions of the Moon and the Sun in relation to the Earth.

"The same principle is used to find the diameter of the real Sun." This is true, but I suggest inserting an explicit warning NOT to try this with the real Sun. This is because looking directly at the Sun, without an intervening soecial-purpose filter, can damage eyesight.
